Applying for Citizenship in the United States

There are a few requirements a person will need to meet to apply for citizenship. They include:

Continuous residence in the United States for five (or three years) depending on the case
Lawful admission as a permanent resident
Good moral character for the five years (or three) before their application
Support the Constitution’s values and principles
Speak, write, and read English (with some limited exceptions)
Pass a civics test

A person can apply for US citizenship three months before their five-year period is completed. They’ll need to be interviewed and fingerprinted.
